Ready for change?
Feeling nervous before trying hypnotherapy is completely normal.
I’ll start by saying this: I know where you’re coming from because I had an unbelievable amount of fear before trying it myself.
In fact, there were a few times when I looked into hypnotherapy and almost started, but then stopped. Part of me kept picturing those ridiculous scenes of people clucking like chickens or doing embarrassing things on stage. Another part of me, as a trauma survivor, was scared to put myself in a vulnerable position and risk having yet another painful experience.
So if a part of you is curious but another part is wondering, “Is hypnotherapy safe?” or “Will I lose control?” I understand that fear completely.
In my case, my situation had become so severe that I knew I needed real help. I also knew I couldn’t keep living the way I was living. So I pushed through my fears, did my research and learned the truth about hypnotherapy.
It ended up changing my life.
That’s part of why this work matters so deeply to us at HEAL YOURSELF Therapy. We don’t take your trust lightly. Feeling safe isn’t a small detail. It’s one of the most important parts of creating meaningful change.
You know what it’s like…
That one thought that plays on a loop in your mind. It might start as something small: “What if I’m not good enough?” “What if I mess up again?”
But before you know it, it’s no longer just a thought—it’s your reality.
You’ve repeated it to yourself so many times that your mind no longer questions it. It doesn’t feel like a thought anymore. It feels like the truth.
This is exactly when negative thoughts hypnotherapy becomes essential.
Is Hypnotherapy Safe?
Yes, hypnotherapy is generally considered safe when it’s done by a trained professional in a supportive and respectful environment.
The purpose of hypnotherapy isn’t to control you. It’s to guide you into a more focused and receptive state so you can work with the deeper part of your own mind.
You’re not unconscious. You’re not powerless. You’re not being forced to do anything against your will.
You’re guided.
That’s a very different thing.
During hypnotherapy, your mind is in a relaxed and focused state. Many people describe it as feeling calm, peaceful, aware or deeply connected to themselves. You may feel physically relaxed while your mind becomes more open to positive suggestions that are aligned with your goals.
In other words, hypnotherapy isn’t about someone taking over your mind. It’s about helping you work with your own mind more effectively.
Will I Lose Control During Hypnotherapy?

No. You don’t lose control during hypnotherapy.
This is one of the biggest hypnosis myths out there. The idea that a hypnotherapist can make you do something you don’t want to do may make for interesting television, but it’s not how professional hypnotherapy works.
You remain aware. You can speak. You can move. You can open your eyes. You can stop the process at any time.
At HEAL YOURSELF Therapy, we make this clear from the beginning because we never want a client to feel unsure about what’s happening.
Hypnotherapy works best when you feel safe, respected and aligned with the process. Your subconscious mind isn’t some random hidden force that can be hijacked. It’s a deeper part of you. The work is most effective when the suggestions given to your mind are based on what you want to change, release or strengthen within yourself.
Why Do Some People Feel Scared of Hypnotherapy?
People are often scared of hypnotherapy because they haven’t been properly educated about it.
They may worry that:
- They’ll lose control
- They’ll reveal secrets
- They’ll get stuck in hypnosis
- They’ll be made to do something embarrassing
- They won’t wake up
- They won’t be aware of what’s happening
None of that is what professional hypnotherapy is about.
A hypnotherapy session isn’t a performance. It’s not entertainment. It’s a guided therapeutic process designed to help you create change at a deeper level.
Many people feel relieved once they understand what really happens in a session.
What Happens During a Hypnotherapy Session?
Before we begin, we explain how the process works and why it works. You’re not left guessing what’s going to happen next.
We talk with you about what you want support with. That may include anxiety, self sabotage, emotional eating, fears, phobias, confidence, relationship patterns, smoking, vaping, stress, sleep issues, trauma patterns or personal growth.
Then, when it’s time for the hypnotherapy portion of the session, you get comfortable in a recliner with one of our Mental Mantras weighted blankets so your mind and body can feel supported.
Only the hypnotherapy portion of the session is recorded and emailed to you afterward.
The actual hypnosis process is gentle and guided. You’re led into a more relaxed state and then we give your mind suggestions that are connected to the change you want to create.
The goal is to help your subconscious mind start accepting a healthier pattern instead of repeating the old one.
Experience hypnotherapy in a way that feels calm, safe and empowering.
Why Feeling Safe Helps the Process Work Better
Your nervous system matters.
When you feel unsafe, your mind and body naturally go into protection mode. That makes it harder to relax, receive support and create change.
When you feel safe, your system can soften. Your mind becomes more open. Your body can stop bracing. Your subconscious becomes more receptive to the work.
That’s why we take safety seriously.
Many of us were clients before we became practitioners. We know what it feels like to walk into a session unsure of what to expect. We also know how powerful this work can be when it’s done with care, skill and respect.
This isn’t just about creating a cozy environment. It’s about creating the right internal conditions for transformation.
Hypnotherapy Is Not About Forcing Your Mind
Hypnotherapy isn’t about forcing your mind to do anything.
It’s a guided process where the input we give your mind is based on your goals. You’re not being told who to become. You’re being supported in becoming more aligned with who you actually want to be.
The work may help you release old emotional responses, interrupt patterns, shift limiting beliefs, strengthen self trust or create healthier automatic responses.
That’s why hypnotherapy can feel so different from simply trying to “think positive.”
You’re not just talking about the issue. You’re working with the part of the mind where many patterns are stored.
